The benefits of coffee

We drink coffee when we are relaxing, at breakfast with the family or during a chat with friends. According to several studies, moderate consumption of this drink is good for our health

Coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages [1] in the world. In Brazil, coffee consumption comes second only to water.  Served black or with milk, coffee is always drunk at breakfast, at work, or when getting together with friends.  For millions of people, drinking a cup of coffee after waking up [2] is essential to start of the day. Coffee contains caffeine, a substance that stimulates concentration, memory and even learning [3], and it gives us a sense of exhilaration [4].  Coffee consumption has been the subject of numerous studies. Several studies have found that moderate consumption of coffee (no more than four 50 ml cups a day) can help to prevent depression and liver [5] disease. Coffee contains minerals including potassium, calcium, zinc, iron [6] and magnesium, as well as Vitamin B. Moreover, the drink also includes antioxidants, substances that help prevent various types of disease.


Too much coffee can damage your health

Some studies suggest that coffee could help to reduce cholesterol and assist weight loss. On the other hand, experts warn that excessive consumption of this drink can harm [7] our health, causing insomnia and irritability, as well as harming the digestive tract.  Coffee consumption is not advisable [8] for people suffering from gastritis, ulcers or reflux. And for those who suffer from insomnia, the trick [9] is to avoid drinking coffee after 4 pm.
